Omega watches are such trusted brand name watches that for over a decade, more than twenty expedition crews have visited the International Space Station while wearing Omega Speedmaster watches.
The Omega Speedmaster watch is probably the most renowned chronograph timepiece. It is the only watch that withstood every one of the United States space agency’s rigorous tests under conditions of zero gravity and magnetic fields, extreme shocks and vibrations, and temperatures ranging from -18 to +93 degrees Celsius.
Although the watch had already made a few trips to space by the time Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon, it’s most famous excursion was on July 21, 1969, when the Speedmaster recorded man’s first steps on the moon; it remains the only watch to be worn on the moon. Thus, one of its nicknames is the Moonwatch.
The Speedmaster was also adorned the wrists of American astronaut Tom Stafford and Russian cosmonaut Alexei Leonov during the historic Apollo-Soyuz space rendezvous; ever since then, it has been the official chronograph of the Russian space program.
